In 1992 I went to Kenya as part of a Scout and Guide expedition to build a health centre in Murinduko.
Before the expedition we did a lot of fundraising and collecting useful items such as building equipment, gardening tools, sewing machines, and bicycles (built and repaired by my Great Uncle Bill). These were shipped out with vehicles we used on site.
The finished health centre. The red dust got everywhere. The project write-up is available here.
I think I was the only team member to cross the equator, and that was because I was allowed a little time off the expedition to visit this couple who I’d met in pre-project fundraising.
I was very pleased with this photo of the Chief Scout which was taken in pitch black.
Some of us spent our final week on safari.
